Why does the on-screen counter not reflect the total number of participants in a call?

If there are some participants in a call that you can't see, either because of your layout choice or because they are audio only, then you will see an on-screen counter giving the total number of participants in the call. So, either everyone else will be visible to you, or you will see the number of participants in an on-screen counter.

If multiple participants are seeing an on-screen counter, they will all see the same number, irrespective of whether the call is on a single Call Bridge or distributed across a cluster of Call Bridges.

Note: if you cascade calls between 2 separate systems then the on-screen counter will not reflect the total number of participants.
