At what levels can I enable remote muting of audio and stopping video?

Note: coSpaces are now called spaces.

Remote muting/stopping of audio and video can be enabled at:

  • system level
  • specific tenant
  • specific space

It can be enabled to allow participants to alter just their audio/video state, or the state of anybody else in the meeting. Remote muting/unmuting or stopping/starting is performed on the server, so audio/video will still be sent from clients to the server (unless a participant has self-muted locally). Enabling/disabling this feature at a space level takes precedence over the setting at tenant or system level. Similarly, setting at a tenant level takes precedence over settings at a system level.

If remote muting is set, then guests as well as members will be able to mute and unmute other participants, as well as themselves, providing another overriding method has not been set.

Use an API tool such as Chrome Postman or Firefox Poster, to enable or disable muting. For information on using the API, see the API Reference Guide.

To allow a participant to modify the mute state of another participant:

  • set videoMuteOthersAllowed=true in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace
  • set audioMuteOthersAllowed=true in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace

Similarly, to allow a participant to unmute/mute themselves on the server:

  • set videoMuteSelfAllowed=true in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace
  • set audioMuteSelfAllowed=true in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace

To disable remote muting/unmuting of the audio or stopping/starting the video:

  • set videoMuteOthersAllowed=false in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace
  • set audioMuteOthersAllowed=false in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace
  • set videoMuteSelfAllowed=false in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace
  • set audioMuteSelfAllowed=false in the callLegProfile of the system/tenant/coSpace
